Yes, Costa Rica is a very safe place for visitors. The local residents are warm and welcoming to tourists. Like any country, it has its bad element and share of crime. Exercising the same common sense and safety precautions as you would when traveling anywhere in the world, ensures a safe and memorable visit.

Yes. All visitors to Costa Rica must have a valid Passport from their Country of Residence. Your passport must not be scheduled to expire within 90 days of your arrival date here. Your Passport must be in good physical condition with no tears or any type of separation of the photo page or main information page. If your passport is worn, torn, tattered or damaged we strongly suggest you get it replaced with a new one ASAP and before you leave for Costa Rica.
We also suggest that you make a photocopy of your passport prior to arrival. While in Costa Rica, you must carry your original or photocopy of your passport, with a copy the entrance stamp page, on your person at all times. Carrying a copy ensures that your original passport is not lost or stolen while you are here.
Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is the closest airport to Jaco Beach. With the completion of the new highway CR 27, it’s a quick and scenic 1.5hr ride from the SJO airport to Los Sueños / Jaco Beach.
It’s a very scenic and enjoyable ride, offering multiple photo opportunities. There are plenty of places to stop and eat, as well as use restrooms along the way.
Costa Rica is an amazing destination to visit year round. The peak season months are November -May which is referred to as “Dry Season” as chances of rain are minimal and skies are bright and clear. Green Season (rainy) runs Mid through October.
The rains in May through late August tend to be less and typically come in the late afternoon and evening. September and October tend to be the rainiest months of the year. Foliage is at its greenest and most vibrant at this time.
Costa Rica Colones and US Dollars are the only two currencies accepted in Costa Rica. If you pay for anything in USD cash, you will receive Costa Rican Colones back as change. The Costa Rican currency is called Colones pronounced (Kuh-Low-nez). The rate of exchange varies weekly and can fluctuate from 525-650 Colones to 1 American Dollar.
Do not exchange large amounts of money at the airport. The exchange windows at the airport charge very high fees for their exchange services. Your JacoVIP Vacations concierge will direct you to a local bank where you can exchange currency at a much better rate, and they’ll explain to you how to easily understand the currency.
Overall it’s quick and reliable. All of our homes and villas have WiFi internet service as well as most restaurants, bars, sidewalk cafes and many other locations here. Internet speed won’t be as fast as you are used to back home and varies from location to location. In general it’s usually pretty quick and reliable.
