Fishing General FAQ's
The fishing in the Jaco / Los Suenos area is good year round!
Our peak fishing season is December through May where catches of trophy sized Sailfish, Marlin, Mahi-Mahi and Yellowfin Tuna are common Offhsore.
Nearshore, the Rooster fishing as well as Grouper and Snapper fishing is excellent at this time as well.
No matter what month you are here, there’s always something to be caught in our local waters.
Yes, all passengers on a fishing charter boat in Costa Rica must purchase and carry a valid fishing license, regardless of whether they intend to fish.
You can obtain your fishing license from the INCOPESCA agent at the dock entrance your first day of fishing.
The license is valid for one week from the date of purchase and the cost is $17.00 per person, payable in Cash USD only.
Full Day and 1/2 Day trips are available for both Offshore and Nearshore fishing
*Full Days typically start at 7:00-7:30am and return by 3:45-4:00pm.
( We HIGHLY recommend a FULL day trip to maximize your chances of catching success!)
*Half Days start at 7:00am and return by 12noon.
Yes, we offer half-day near shore trips on our carefully selected smaller Panga style and Custom Express boats.
These trips are ideal for targeting Roosterfish, Snapper, or offshore species such as medium-sized Mahi-Mahi and small Tuna.
Please note that half-day trips are available only with a few of our larger boats from the Marina to ensure the delivery of the quality and quantity of your fishing.
For all Billfish caught, must be live-released carefully once they are brought to a side of the boat to ensure their chances of survival.
As for edible species like Dorado, Wahoo, Tuna, and Snapper, our mates will fillet them onboard at no extra cost.
You have the option ask your chef to cook your fish at your vacation rental, cook it yourself or we can recommend some restaurants where they will gladly prepare your fresh catch for a reasonable fee.

**Full Day trips also Include Lunch for all passengers on board.
On any trip you are welcome to bring any additional food and beverage on board that you wish.
NOT INCLUDED:
*15-20% Gratuity for your Captain & Crew.
*Costa Rica Fishing license. $17 per person purchased at the dock entrance on the morning of your fishing charter.
Note: if your boat departs from Herradura Beach, which is next to and outside of the marina, you do not need to purchase a fishing license.
