Fishing is good year round. The peak season is December through May, when trophy sailfish, marlin, mahi-mahi and yellowfin tuna are common offshore, and nearshore roosterfish, grouper and snapper fishing is excellent too.
Soda, beer, bottled water and snacks, fuel, bait, tackle, the use of all fishing gear and fish cleaning and filleting. Full-day trips also include lunch on board. A 15 to 20 percent gratuity for the captain and crew and the fishing license are not included.
Yes. Everyone on board a charter in Costa Rica needs a license, whether they fish or not. It costs $17 per person, cash in US dollars, from the INCOPESCA agent at the dock entrance, and is valid for one week. Boats departing from Herradura Beach, outside the marina, do not require it.
Full days usually run from about 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and give you the best chance at big fish. Half days run from 7:00 am to noon on selected nearshore boats, ideal for roosterfish, snapper or medium mahi-mahi and tuna.
All billfish are carefully released. Edible species like dorado, wahoo, tuna and snapper are filleted on board at no extra cost, and your private chef can cook them at the villa.
Yes. While some of the group fishes, others can take a tour, play golf or relax at the villa, and everyone comes together for dinner.
